How to use this generator
- Leave Planet type random for all eight, or select a type.
- Generate one planet and read its position from the Sun.
- Follow NASA’s reference for more information, copy the result or generate again.
Examples
- Mars — terrestrial — fourth from the Sun
- Neptune — ice giant — eighth from the Sun
The collection has eight outcomes
This is a picker for the eight planets in our Solar System. It excludes dwarf planets such as Pluto and planets around other stars. The finite set cycles without repeats before starting another round; there are no invented planets to inflate the collection.
Reading the type filter
Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars are terrestrial planets. Jupiter and Saturn are gas giants; Uranus and Neptune are ice giants. The numbers shown are their order from the Sun, not their relative sizes or a random ranking.
Common questions
Why does a type repeat after only two draws?
There are two gas giants and two ice giants in this collection. After both matching planets have appeared, that filtered round begins again.
Is this a fictional planet-name generator?
No. It selects real Solar System planets. Use Fantasy Names or Object Names if you want a creative naming tool.
