How to use this generator

  1. Choose a source severity category or keep all documented entries.
  2. Use Advanced options to filter a part flagged in the source.
  3. Generate a profile and read the reference; never taste a plant to identify it.

Examples

  • Abrus precatorius — source category: high
  • Actaea — source category: high

What the severity labels mean

The 215 entries have a low, medium or high severity field in the NC Extension source. These are reference categories, not a prediction of the outcome of any individual exposure. Some familiar food plants have harmful parts or context-dependent risks; a flag does not mean every part has the same toxicity.

Use as education, not an exposure decision

Do not handle or taste unknown plants based on these names. Low severity does not establish edibility or pet safety. If exposure is suspected, contact a local poison information or emergency service. This tool does not diagnose poisoning or provide treatment instructions.

No-repeat rounds with real limits

Each matching record is used before that selection starts another round. Subject rotation also spreads related plants or animals where the pool allows. Filters retain seen-record history during the visit, but narrow selections finish sooner. Reloading or opening another page starts a fresh session.

Common questions

Why can a familiar edible plant appear?

Risk can depend on the part, preparation, amount and individual. Read the referenced profile rather than assuming a whole-plant rule.

Does this identify a plant from a photo?

No. It displays a source-backed profile without image recognition or specimen identification.
